EPE student second prize goes to Romain Olivier from Boulogne

The master cheesemaker's son was encouraged to take part in the award after completing a double Master's degree at ESC Tours-Poitiers and the University of Sherbrooke in Canada.
Romain Olivier, son of Boulonnais master cheesemaker Philippe Olivier, well known for the dimension he has given to his trade, has just distinguished himself with brio. The Association française des entreprises pour l'environnement (EpE), a French association of companies for the environment, brings together some forty major companies that want to take greater account of the environment in their day-to-day management and move towards sustainable development. As part of Sustainable Development Week, Metro and EpE organized the first edition of the EpE Student Prize, whose jury was chaired by Yves Coppens, Professor at the Collège de France, member of the Institut and Chairman of the Commission for the drafting of the Environmental Charter. Students were asked to be imaginative in a 20-page report on the theme "Our house is burning ... But who are the firemen? What should they do?" to be completed in a month and a half. Three prizes of €5,000, €3,000 and €2,000 were offered by the sponsors (Arcelor, Renault, Gaz de France).
Exchangeable permits. Because of his origins, he naturally chose to tackle the issue of the fishing industry. In his report, he proposes applying a system of tradable permits, now being applied to CO2 in the context of climate change, to fishery resources. A system that would allow greater flexibility and better resource management. Aware of the risks and difficulties of this system, he suggests that the fines associated with the unavoidable controls be paid into a fund dedicated to actions targeted at the fishing industry. The young man based his speech on information provided by some of Boulonnais' leading professionals. Our congratulations. Second prize went to Romain Olivier, 24, from Boulogne. He was encouraged to take part as part of his double Master's degree in management and sustainable development, which he prepared at ESC Tours-Poitiers and the University of Sherbrooke in Canada.
